Bento # 9 - Animal Pasta

This is girlet's lunch today. Animal pasta, tossed with a little evoo and lots of cheese. Also added animal shape carrot and cheese in main compartment. In the smaller container, is a pig silicon cup filled with animal shaped ham, as well as animal picks for the grapes.

The verdict : Girlet ate everything except for the broccoli, which is strange as that is one vegie she usually eats. The maid said it's because the broccoli are normally stir fried, so more tasty, while these were blanched with the pasta. Next time, I'll pack some thousand island sauce for her to dip in.

Later, I found out that Girlet didn't eat the pasta by herself.


Girlet : I like the animal pasta. Can I have it again? All my friends also like them.

Me : Oh, did you share? I thought you ate them all yourself.

Girlet : Erm..... I gave one elephant to SL and one tortoise to SM.

Me : Okay. You didn't give any to your partner?

Girlet : Oh...... I gave him a lion.

Me : What about the new girl behind you? What's her name?

Girlet : Yeah.... I gave JX a giraffe.

Me : So how many did you give away?

Girlet : Only 6..... looking at my raised eyebrow........ er ...... I think 8.......er maybe 9......


LOL. I think she gave a piece to each of her friends - must be a novelty. Better pack more next time.

Bento # 8 - Sandwiches using Hello Kitty Cookie Cutters

More new toys. Cut out sandwiches using the Hello Kitty Cookie Cutters. The imprints are really nice. I put in the above pic to show the various cutters. Have another 2 of the bigger sandwiches, oval and star shape, not shown. Was eaten before I took the photo, and I ran out of bread, so couldn't make more.

The actual lunch taken to school is as below. Added some Hello Kitty cookies to add interest. The sandwiches were filled with cream cheese and kaya. Yum. The girlet noticed that both the side cups were cat shaped . Didn't think she was that observant. Her teacher said that she always look mon-cha-cha, hehe.... Her parents would probably look worse than her if we were to attend a chinese kindergarten. At least she's picking up mandarin, though still speak like angmoh. *_*

Onigiri and Jelly stash

While making the Hello Kitty onigiri, made extra to stash in freezer. When needed, just microwave for 30 seconds (as the size of these onigiris are small). The trick is to wrap them when still warm, so there are steam droplets which will soften the rice when you microwave it again. Also these jelly are very handy, as copied from Our Story. Just stick them in the bento to add some colour, so fast and easy. The moulds are a mixture of plastic and silicon, all from Daiso. Added Ribena to make red jelly and fresh mango juice for the orange. While green jelly is from pandan/screwpine leaves (pounded to get green juice) mixed with evaporated milk.

Bento # 7 - Hello Kitty rice mould set

Have new toys, must play right? So this is the product using the Hello Kitty rice mould set. Turned out quite well. The girlet was most impressed. I offered to make for the boylet too, but he refused. Still he looked a bit green when he saw this....... oopsie...



The main compartment has steamed eggrolls (fishpaste and ham fillings), green pandan and milk jelly, and hello kitty carrots. Girlet ate everything except the capsicum bow and flower.

Bento #3 - Tomato Rice in Hot Wheels lunch box

Felt sorry for packing food for boylet in a Hello Kitty box, so went to Jaya Jusco in 1U to see if they have any more boyish lunch box. To my delight, I found a Hot Wheels lunch box, which comes complete with fork, spoon, chopstick, a removable divider and a bento belt!!! They had spiderman ones too, but only 1 left, which was opened and missing a fork. Don't you just hate that when that happens...... bad Malaysian attitude.......

Simple lunch with tomato rice, meat floss and star shaped nori scattered on top, and a smiling star rice cracker from the 100 yen shop. Took out the chopstick since the boylet is not proficient with it yet.

I used a star paper puncher from my scrapbooking stash to punch on nori. So found a dual purpose for my punchers, but not sure I want to use the star puncher again for scrapbooking. Maybe being anal as usual, but I can just imagine the seaweed smell in my scrapbooks. Erm...... should I get another star puncher?

Bento # 2 - more eggy experiment

For this bento, I used the egg moulds for quail eggs. You can see a faint rabbit and bear picture on the eggs. Sorry, bad photography. In real life, the imprint is more obvious. Click the pic to see an enlarged version of the pic.

Lunch consisted of fried bee hoon, crabstick and edamame on picks, and 2 quail eggs. The rabbit container that the carrots (and some extra edamame) were in is actually a rice mould. Also some sauce in the Hello Kitty container. Was very bad at judging the proportion of food. Packed too much bee hoon and vegie, as girlet came back with half of the noodles and carrots leftover.

These are the egg moulds for the quail eggs. Couldn't take clear pics of the eggs using the mould on the left. In hind sight, should have bought another set of mould instead. I like egg moulds that change the shape of the eggs, rather than just imprinting pics on the eggs. Yay, more reason to shop.....hehe.......

After the previous post's disaster, retried using the egg moulds using larger eggs. Better results, drumroll....ta da....

Boylet's lunch - dino shaped strawberry jam sandwich (with some leaf shaped ones as their food), bear egg, soy sauce in Hello Kitty container, and Hello Kitty bento box. Don't you agree I was in dire straits to buy bento things suitable for little boys? Hehe.....

Only managed to take a picture of 1 egg, as the rest were gone in a flash. Shapes that I have are rabbit, bear, car, fish, heart and star. Bought from ebay and came in sets of 2, as pictured below. Then I saw the same heart and star egg moulds in Daiso, for only SGD 2. Of course must grab them, can always give as presents to friends, right?

More loot from Singapore

Bought these cute stuff from the shop in Chinatown Point. Spent more than SGD100, so am now a member, ie. future purchases have 10% off. Yay!

This is a silicon cake/pudding/jelly mould. Is oven safe. There is a similar mould for Winnie the Pooh, but out of stock.

These are vegie/cookie cutters. So cute right? I'm eyeing those with Tigger and Piglet. Read somewhere that Carrefour Plaza Singapura has, but didn't find any when I went.

I tried them on carrots. Works well. But don't slice carrot too thin, or the cutter will cut through, as can see from the broken HK's neck on top.

The kiddos were very impressed, but didn't eat any cos too cute. That defeated the purpose, didn't it? Hmm.....
More Hello Kitty cookie/sandwich/pancake cutters.

Also bought a Hello Kitty pancake pan. I had actually seen something similar being sold in KL for RM20+, but didn't get it. Now couldn't find it anymore. Talk about regret. Ended up having to pay double of that.
This is a Pikachu rice mould. After buying so many girlie Hello Kitty stuff, must balance with some boyish things ~_~ And lastly, my favourite. A complete set of Hello Kitty rice mould, nori and vegie cutter. Rice mould to shape the face. Nori cutter (which works like paper punch) for the face features -HK eyes, HK whisker & rabbit nose/mouth. Vegie cutter for cutting out HK's bow (from red capsicum), My Melody's flower and bear's ears.
